Rebuild a bus into a lighthouse

You just got a new LEGO box, and you have built the model that’s shown in the building instructions. Now what? Most likely you will play with it, of course. But do you ever feel like taking it apart and building something new with the same bricks? Maybe you’re not sure where to start. Let’s use the Friendship Bus as an example, and maybe you can ask yourself these three questions to help you see new possibilities in your favorite sets! 1. What is your favorite element or feature of your set? Here, the slide is a fun and unusual element that might be fun to work with. When you want to use a slide in an alternative build of your own, it might be a great idea to think of a tall building that will fit in scale. 2. Which elements do you have lots of, and what could they be used for? The Friendship Bus has lots of windows. They would look great in your tall slide building! And so, the idea of a lighthouse was born. You need stairs, of course, to climb to the top of the slide. And then you can start adding details and furniture inside and out. 3. What other little details do you like in the set? Wheels are always fun – you can make robots, carts, cars, or even machines with them. Here they’ve been used for a beach buggy. You have hotdogs for a beach barbecue, food for a small snack booth, and even curved elements that make up a perfect sail for Stephanie’s catamaran. Feel like your old bricks are talking to you now? (They’re not, that’s your imagination, and it’s a good thing!) Now you can start creating endless new models of your own! Check back for more ideas and alternative builds.
