Seven Seas Fun Facts!

As Sea Life Friends, we’re curious about our oceans and reefs around the world. It’s such a big part of our planet. In fact, almost three quarters of Earth is covered in water. Here are some fun facts about the seven seas to inspire you to learn more: Did you know? - The Pacific Ocean is the world’s biggest ocean. It covers almost one third of our planet. - The Atlantic Ocean is where you can find the legendary Bermuda Triangle. - The Indian Ocean is the world’s third-largest ocean. - The Arctic Ocean is home to the narwhal, polar bear, walrus and lots of other Arctic animals. - The Mediterranean Sea is famous for its reefs and rich sea life. - The Caribbean Sea is where some of history’s famous pirates used to roam! You can also find some of the world’s most colorful coral reefs here. - The Gulf of Mexico is home to rare sea turtles and almost 50 different types of sharks! - Coral reefs might look like weird rocks, but they’re actually alive! They’re made up of thousands of teeny animals called polyps, whose tentacle-like arms emerge at night to catch food. - Between 700,000 and one million known species live in our oceans. Scientists estimate there may still be millions of more species we just haven’t discovered yet. - Some of the sea life we know today, like sea turtles, evolved as long as 200 million years ago!
